=== A Treatise on Hearthstones ===
by Various Authors
Hearthstones, as they've come to be known, are in-so-far of
unknown origin. Rumors and speculation that they were gifts
from the deities watching over the realms are currently just
that, and have remained unfounded for centuries. Hearthstones
are currently distributed by the Explorer's Guild to adventurers
that are brave enough to explore the vast lands available to
them. While the source of their power is unknown, and likely
will remain so, experimentation has revealed some of the latent
functions of these mysterious stones.
Currently, the stones slowly draw in energy and that energy may
be utilized to take the stone-holder to certain destinations.
This may be done by 'hearth'ing to a location. How the locations
are chosen is currently unknown but they may be listed by focusing
on the stone with: 'hearth list' or 'hearth locations'
Once you know where you wish to travel you can 'hearth' to that
location. The stone will allow you to do this freely every sixty
minutes. This is roughly how long it takes for the stone to regain
power. Patrons of the Explorer's Guild seem to be able to charge
the stone faster, resulting in a thirty minute wait. Deeper studies
have shown the stone may also be 'empower'ed through an offering of
gold. This is partially where the rumors of the them being gifts from
deities originated. 'Empower'ing the stone in this way also halves
the charge time, and stacks with the patronage reduction resulting
in fifteen minute waits.
The other source of rumors regarding them being gifts is that people
protected by the deities (or those seeking revival through them) are
not bound to these recharge timers.
Members fortunate enough to accumulate the wealth to afford housing
also seem to be able to use the stone to return directly to their
homes. Additionally this function operates on a secondary source
of power from the stone and thus has a separate recharge timer.
The timer for this pool of power is also modified by patronage
and empowerment. The base time seems to be thirty minutes,
reduce to fifteen and seven-and-a-half respectively.
The final source of deitic rumor is the further functionality
that bypasses recharge timers entirely! By focusing and providing
an offering (referred to by adventurers as 'phearth'ing) one
may hearth to any location available to them for a monetary cost.
Luckily the stones gauge their own power and will use that if
available, rather than requiring an offering while they are
fully charged.
Empowering the stone also requires a monetary offering, and
seems to last a full day-night cycle.
This concludes all currently held knowledge of hearthstones.

Addendum the first: Returning
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Whilst researching the waking dream, scolars and clergy have
discovered another function of the hearthstone relics. For a
brief period during which the stone is cooling down from use
the stone retains a dwindling, single link to the location from
which it was previously used. Focusing on this link allows the
stonebearer to return to where they had left in those fleeting
moments prior. As the stone disperses the extra energy, the link
grows weaker and eventually severs itself.

Addendum the second: Empowering Cast Time Reduction
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The Gnomes of Mt. Gnowhere began research into the hearthstones
at the behest of the academy and the Explorer's Guild in an
attempt to uncover additional information about the mysterious
objects. In their experiments they discovered that the stones
can be empowered remotely with overloaded energy, causing them
to function faster. Unfortunately this overloaded period only
lasts for a fleeting period of time. However, any expanded
knowledge of the curious hearthstones is always a step in the
correct direction.

Addendum the third: Remembrance
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Not to be outdone by Gnomes, the Dwarves of Edo - now bolstered
by their success with firearms - have managed to tap into a new
feature within the stone. A way now exists to store locations
within the stone to which you return later. Travel has never
been easier with the species of the realm working together!
