Skaven are a race of beastmen combining the natures of man and rat. They came into being during the Incursions of Chaos when giant rats were exposed to the magic of the warpstone. They take the form of giant rats in a twisted parody of human form, between 4 and 6 feet tall.
Other details vary widely, as they are rooted in Chaos. Except for their ears and tail, they are covered in close-growing fur. Most are brown in color but some are grey or even white. The white skaven can make very good Chaosmages. Their rat-like feet, however, cannot be covered up by normal boots.
Skaven are slightly weaker on average than humans, but are very dexterous and have a cunning intellect. Due to the way in which they were made they have a weak constitution. They have been known to resist the power of Chaos for that is what they were born of. They are also highly resistant to poison after researching the poisonous warpstone for so many years. For some obscure reason, Skavens tend to take more damage from fire and less from cold.
Skaven tend to make very good thieves and can make good spellcasters.
