Illusionists,

I've made it so modifying phantasm will give you a chance
to increase the damage per attack of the phantasm. The overall
damage of each phantasm has not changed, however.

From the help file:
"Using extra spell points to cast the spell will greatly increase
the damage caused by each of the illusion's attacks, however 'the
candle which burns twice as bright burns half as long'... The
duration of the phantasm will also be decreased."
