                    -SPONSOR HELP DOC-
                        -8/15/2000-

Qualifications: A sponsor should generally be either level 100 or 500.
No one under level 100 may be a sponsor. And those
over level 500 *should* be too busy to devote the time
necessary to be an adequate sponsor, but they may. It's
up to the said elder or arch to determine if he/she has
                 the time.
A sponsor should have a very well designed, original and
bug-free area in the game. They should obviously have
the experience necessary to help someone who is attempting
to make a good area. Their area should be up to all QC
standards. A sponsor should be a good example for his/her
sponsoree. A sponsor should endeavor to have some basic
examples of rooms/monsters/objects for the sponsoree to
observe and learn from. (There should actually be
examples in /open, but we all know that isn't always the
                 case.)

Responsibilities: The sponsor has several responsibilities. First they
should act in a matter that serves as a responsible
example for the sponsorees to see. They should keep
                   their areas maintained.
Second, the sponsor is responsible for approving the
theme of the area the sponsoree wishes to start coding.
The sponsor and sponsoree should go together to where
the sponsoree plans on putting the area, and decide
                   if it fits in there.
Third, they need to help the sponsoree with the areas
they are trying so hard to make. If the sponsoree has
questions as to how some inherited function works or
how to make something in general, the sponsoree should
be there to give guidance. It may be the case that
the sponsoree isn't clueless however, but this does NOT
mean that the sponsor is alleviated of any responsibility
                   for the sponsoree.
Fourth, the sponsor is *first responsible to go through
an area to make sure it's up to basic QC standards, to give
ideas of improvement and to just make sure everything
loads!* IT IS NOT A QCer's RESPONSIBILITY to do this
before a sponsor! It is up the to sponsor to go through
check it out then him/herself present the area to a QC
wizard for approval. The sponsor should have lots of
contact with QCers and be active in the QC process of
the area. (It may be helpful to go through as the wizard
codes the area, checking up on things. And deciding
before the coding sponsoree has put in tons of effort
                   if something will pass QC.)

Remember: Sponsorees look to you for help. We all know how frustrating
it can be to learn something new, and how helpful and comforting
it is to have someone around to help us. Although this seems
like a lot of work for the sponsor, it isn't all that much really.
You will still have time to work on your own projects, easily.
Just do *not* ignore these responsibilities.

Note: It is the sponsor's *primary* duty to help the sponsoree
who may have limited experience with LPC in coding. To
answer questions (no matter how seemingly obvious).
Basically, to help them learn the ropes of coding here.
If you feel that you are not knowledgable or patient
enough to do this, then you should not be a sponsor.

Note 2: A level 100 wizards iw only allowed to have one sponsoree that
is level 50 or below at one time. Once the sponsoree gets promoted
to level 50, then the sponsor has the choice to sponsor a new
wizard, along with help the level 50 wizard out as well. Wizards
greater than level 100 can sponsor new wizards as they please,
         within reason.
