Ego is a method used on this mud for balancing powerful items being used
by low level characters; at the moment it applies to armour and weapons.

The ego of a weapon will average to (effective WC * 20) - (min STR) - 220).
The min STR of a weapon is generally equal to 10*(weight-1)
This will be boosted by other bonuses the weapon gives, as follows:
+1 to a skill is worth +3 ego.  +1 to a stat is worth +5 ego.
1 hp healing per round is worth +16 ego, 1 sp is worth +26.67.  Healing both
is worth +40.  Other bonuses are not automatically handled, but should be
priced in a similar way.

For armour, ego is equal to (AC*5)-(weight*10)-K, where K is 250 for metal 
body armor, 200 for other body armor, 10 for metal non-body armor, and 0
for other armors.  In addition, +1 skill is worth +15 ego, +1 stat is +20.
