The armour skill represents some form of natural armour; it functions 
identically to worn armor, and usually gives +1 ac per level of skill
(some subclasses behave differently). AC is generally more effective 
than toughness, but does not protect against all attack types; the 'mods'
command may be useful to understand the difference between these skills.
